Helderledge Farm: A spring respite

I'm sorry things have been so quiet on Celinabean of late. I've been down with a nasty sore throat and a fever. Today seems a bit better, though, and I hope to have things hopping again in the next few days. Thanks to all for your patience.

On Monday, I was home with the girls, fever and all. Sometimes it is easier to be out of the house. We went to Helderledge Farm, a nursery set in a beautiful garden. Dangerous to the pocketbook, but oh, so good for the soul.

And really, how sad and grumpy can you be looking at chickens.

Or these beauties for that matter.

This place sounds wonderful! Is there an admission fee?

By the way, I've been looking for a Korean resturant for the longest time since I've moved to Albany. I found one with really good Korean BBQ. It's called Ta-Ke located at 500 Northern Blvd, Albany, NY 12204.

Let me just warn you though, the staff isn't the friendliest but the food is worth putting up with it.

I hope you get a chance to sample the menu!

Yes, Helderledge Farm is a treat. No there is no fee. But it is hard (for me anyway) to make it out of there without buying anything for my garden.

I've been to Ta-Ke once. To be honest, it wasn't really my thing. But perhaps I was wrong. Why do you like it so much?

Oh I think I liked Ta-Ke so much because I think it it is the only Korean resturant in Albany, and I miss Korean food! hehe.

Do you know anywhere in the Capital Region that serves good Dim Sum?

I love reading your site it provides so much information about food in the Albany area that I didn't know about!

We have a new japanese/korean restaurant here in Latham...Kabuki recently opened up in Peter Harris Plaza in the former Cafe Nora location....Kabuki used to be up in CP, but their building was torn down...I haven't tried the food yet, but did take a take out menu....some korean dishes are listed, but I didn't see any kalbi on the menu....perhaps they have it on their sitdown menu in the restaurant itself....lots of sushi, and japanese (sans hibachi - no tables)...as well.

5 years ago I was putting in some foundation plantings for a customer and heard about Helderledge. I stopped there and fell in love with their wonderful hostas. Never before had I seen such lush, massive plants in so many varieties.( Although the prices were unbelievable too!)
The planting of shrubs I had planned turned into a mixed border of hosta and flowering shrubs that turned out absolutely beautiful and my customer was thrilled with it. Since that early fall, I have been collecting and transforming my own little corner of the world and am up to over 70 varieties of hosta on display in my gardens. I do garden design and maintenance mon- fri and now sell Hosta and other select perennials from my home, on Saturdays in June.
Please stop by some time. My prices are a little more reasonable and though I'm no Helderledge, they were my inspiration, and I strive to come closer to their beauty each year. Nice to have found you also, I love to cook. Especially with the fresh herbs I grow. Beth- Garden Creations. Richmondville NY
